There is no Venetian dining table without Cicchetti

August 12, 2016

When you are at Florian, if you ask for the “must try” dish, it doesn’t matter if you ask a waiter or a chef, they will all reply without hesitation: Cicchetti (Venetian seafood appetizers)

Cicchetti (pronounced qi-ke-ti) are one of the most traditional and authentic Venetian delicacies and cannot be missed. They can be spotted on every Venetian dining table and are a fundamental part of every meal.

The famous English food writer Lindy Wildsmith wrote a book on Venetian specialties titled "Cicchetti”, where she explains the fundamental role Cicchetti have among Venetian food delicacies.

Like in the case of many waterside cities, seafood is at the center of Venetian cuisine and fish, shrimps and crabs are its local specialties. The famous Rialto Fish Market has almost a thousand years of history.

Caffè Florian’s Executive Chef authentically brings to China the most traditional Venetian Cicchetti, combining together the most exquisite ingredients: creamy and rich tuna spread on mini bread slices, succulent cod from Livorno, small salmon bites with caramelized red onions, crispy deep-fried Sicilian red shrimps, and octopus slow-cooked for two hours accompanied with warm pumpkin soup…all of these delicious appetizers are presented on a plate of black stone. Among them there is also the chef’s special creation, thin slices of bread with cuttlefish ink to be accompanied with a glass of cold Prosecco or white wine from the Veneto region – in this way you too can fully experience a typical Venetian blissful moment.
